Seattle ORGANIZING CONFERENCE - Defend Our Minimum Wage & ALL Seattle Workers’ Movement Victories

  • New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 124 21st Avenue Seattle, WA, 98122 United States (map)

Join Workers Strike Back, socialist & former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, union members, and working people from across the Seattle area for an urgent ORGANIZING CONFERENCE on Wednesday, August 28 @ 6 pm at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church

Right now, the Seattle Democratic Party and big business are meeting behind closed doors, strategizing new ways to attack our historic minimum wage victory. If they are successful, this would fundamentally undermine Seattle’s minimum wage and lead to other vicious attacks here and around the country.

After our movement forced Seattle Democratic Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth to withdraw her recent attack on our minimum wage, which would have created a lower-tier minimum wage for over 200,000 workers, Hollingsworth said, “My initial proposal was never an end, but the beginning of a process.” This quote exposes how Democratic leaders see this fight: They are determined to undermine our minimum wage, and Hollingsworth’s bill was the beginning of a “process” of finding the best way to screw over workers.

We can’t let Democrats and big business get away with this! They have already announced plans to go after other victories, like our ban on winter evictions.

While it’s important our movement was able to push back, we will need to get better organized in order to defeat this attack altogether.
