VIDEO: Amazon silences immigrant worker at KCVG

By Amazon Labor Union KCVG. Published July 14, 2023

This week, Amazon workers at the KCVG Air Hub presented our petition for better translation at work. More than 750 KCVG workers (and counting!) have signed the petition.

Instead of listening to our concerns, Amazon management blared music to drown out and silence Marcio, an immigrant co-worker who was presenting the petition.

“My voice deserves to be heard here, especially when translation is such an issue. People are getting hurt because they’re not getting trained properly,” Marcio said. “The only thing I’ve seen translated is to not flush stuff down the toilet.”

Amazon management refused to even accept our petition. Instead, they ignored our questions and talked down to Marcio in broken Spanish.

Amazon won’t give workers what we need without a fight. We need your support - can you chip in $30, $100, or $200 now to help us win a union at KCVG?

Amazon’s lack of translation is a safety hazard for all workers at KCVG. Disciplinary meetings take place in English too, which makes it harder for workers who speak a different language to stand up for themselves. We’re calling for translation of ALL work-related communication; interpretation at all disciplinary meetings, alongside union representation; and free, on-site English language classes.

Management won’t even listen to us – watch the video now to see how they dismiss KCVG workers’ concerns. We urgently need to get organized, and we need support from other working people.

Please join us TOMORROW, Saturday, July 15, 2-6 pm for a Union Rally and Family Day at General Ormsby Mitchel Park, Fort Mitchell, KY. Rain or shine, we will be there to unwind from Prime Week with free food, games, and activities, and to get more organized to win our demands, including $30/hour and translation at KCVG. The event will be tented so even if it rains we’ll still have fun!

If you’re not in Kentucky, check out Workers Strike Back’s events happening all over the country in solidarity with KCVG workers!
